The Background:
I captured this image last year in Pine Flat Lake near Sequoia National Park. I love the color and delicateness of California Poppies – they are one of my favorite flowers to shoot. I liked this shot because it captured the beauty of a new bloom before it had opened and really highlighted to me the infinite possibilities of new beginnings.
The Message:
When I was young, I went through a lot of different hobbies – always starting something new and then moving on to another. As I got older, I would do the same with things I wanted to learn, books I wanted to read or projects that I was constantly starting. For a long time, I would look upon this cycle as an indication of failure – why couldn’t I stick with something? Why did I always give up and move on to something new. Looking back, I think there is another way to look at this – how lucky I have been to be able to start so many new adventures. Each beginning is so full of excitement and potential and there is something so wonderful about starting something new. We all want to maintain that feeling of joy and anticipation that we feel at the beginning – we may leave notebooks incomplete, books unfinished or projects halfway done – but let’s not focus on what we didn’t finish – but rather, on what we were privileged to start!
